Teachers to receive P1,000 each as World Teachers’ Day incentive starting Oct. 5

DepEd Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla, in virtual press briefing on Friday, Oct. 1, said that as early as August, Secretary Leonor Briones already gave an instruction to process the payment for the said benefit.
“We have instruction to pay it not earlier than Oct. 5 because that’s stated in our budget law,” Sevilla said.

By Oct. 5, which is the WTD celebration, Sevilla expressed hope that teachers will receive their WTDIB for 2021.

“We are hopeful at marami ay na-check na namin, naka-kasa na, naka-ready na by Oct. 5 they will receive their P1,000-incentive per teacher as the WTDIB,” Sevilla said.

Should there be delay in the payment of the WTDIB, Sevilla said that these might be caused by several factors which are beyond DepEd.

“It could probably because of their quarantine status, banking hours, remittance of cash payment,” she explained.

Despite this, she assured the teachers that will get their incentive benefit.

“Wag silang mag-alala kasi yung (They don’t have to worry because the ) Oct. 5 is the start of the giving but the processing, we started as early as August,” she added.

As announced by DepEd in August, President Duterte has approved the release of the WTDIB in the amount of P1,000 per public school teacher for 2021 which will be at P910 million.
DepEd said that the release of the said incentive benefit is in line with the government’s commitment to “faithfully support our teachers for their dedication in delivering quality education.”
The WTDIB was introduced during the administration of Briones.
The grant of WTDIB recognizes the “vital role of our educators” in addressing the challenges of the pandemic especially in ensuring the continuity of learning.
The WTD, also known as International Teachers Day, is an international day celebrated annually on Oct. 5.
In the Philippines, it is also celebrated as the National Teachers’ Day (NTD).
